Pilgrimage: 33 Temples of Compassion
Walk Kyoto’s 800-Year-Old Pilgrimage—At Your Own Pace
Service Description
Discover Kyoto through one of its oldest spiritual traditions by walking part—or all—of the historic Rakuyō 33 Kannon Pilgrimage! This remarkable pilgrimage connects 33 temples dedicated to Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of compassion. For more than 800 years, pilgrims have followed this sacred route across Kyoto, visiting temples, offering prayers, and reflecting along the journey. The full pilgrimage traditionally takes four days to complete, guiding travelers through some of Kyoto’s most historic and beautiful temple: Kiyomizu-dera, To-ji, etc. This experience is designed to be flexible and comfortable. Guests may: ■ Join the guide for just the first day of the pilgrimage ■ Complete the entire four-day journey with the guide ■ Or, anything in between Pilgrims may also choose to use Kyoto’s public transportation between certain temples, making the route accessible while still preserving the spirit of the pilgrimage.
